Clay oven first fire!
Sand on fire
Public inauguration was a success! hundreds of pizza were made with enthusiasm! Thanks to Ben from E5 Bakehouse who run the show with mmm over 50 people and loads of children! Nice folk music in the background and wind gust to keep us moving! It is simple to make a pizza; 1. make the dough + toppings and baking We had hard time to kill the fire, good sign =)
Monday May 2nd 12-6PM
We will be at Dalston Eastern Curve garden this coming Monday for a relax afternoon with our favorite bread maker Ben (http://www.e5bakehouse.com/) who will teach us how to make Pizza and live music with Dalston based folk musician Robin Grey http://www.robingrey.com/ miam miam! :D
It was an interesting process the digging the sand (as you can see Mathew below). Men chopped wood, as they do, then Craig lightened up the oven for it’s first fire… and first BBQ =) We had Osman, a turkish baba as first chef. Thanks for Ben from E5 Bakery who popped in to bring some dough and toppings, we all made mini-yummy-pizza. Can’t wait for the public opening, May 2nd! ...
Waow Craig put on his war paint before the battle! Containing young people’s energy in an open space, not always easy! Again we got mucky, had a good laugh and the lil’ones seriously took over the layers! It is all polished and now will rest a day before the first fire! Our mixing spot looked more like a beach today =)
With Louise (Sasawork) we started to think metaphorically about the oven… The growth chart is going well!!! We have finished a third layer of clay, sand, water and this time mixed it with sawdust for the isolation and to keep it firm. Again our feet did the job =) Other craft activities were co-existing; plane made of bottles and clay figurines among other… busy bizy day!

Day 5th the 2nd couche!
With fun and bare-feet we cleaned more clay, mashed it with water and sand and then bang! on the dome. Maestro Craig thinks we won’t be finished by next Thursday lol Oh my! Yesterday was stormy boyz and today yummy mums with mini-them! They did a brilliant job mixing the clay!! as well a place to chill…
Day 4 Dome done!
Pffffiou what a day at the Barn! Well it is all about boundaries isn’t? Many amazing volunteers joined us, mums and daughter, grand-mother, children without a mum, young people, etc. We did a dome of sand and mixed the clay, sand and water with our feet, soft skin =)
Day 3 - Clay Oven construction
Today we made little ball of clays, cleaning them carefully so there will be no stones or dirty stuffs. Craig (Sasawork) woke up early to collect the bags of clay from a field somewhere south London. we have seriously found good help with da kids and adults passing by! Even the guys building the super-modern development in Dalston Lane come everyday to check our progress =)
It is hard work, we transport lots of sands and gravel barrels.

Big Big Hugs to the architect & construction supervisors; maestro...
